walkintruthbeintruth Asked:
What brought you to believe in what you believe in?

My answer:

This question has been sitting in my inbox for a while, as I’ve been thinking about how to answer it. I’m not sure if you’re talking about something specifically (Why Athena? Why eclectic? etc.) or if you’re just referring to my general beliefs. I’m guessing the latter, since you didn’t mention anything in particular.

So I guess this is basically the story about how I discovered Paganism:

I was 11 and a Harry Potter fan, and I wanted to be a witch. I then discovered I could be a witch through something called Wicca. I picked up a book on the subject, and quickly discovered it wasn’t quite like Harry Potter. However, I learned a lot of other things from the book too and it made me interested in the religion. I read many more books on the subject. Learning about it and practicing it gave me the best feelings, and it was starting to become a positive influence in my life.

My parents, ignorant about what Pagans believed and did, thought it was stupid and they made fun of me for it. And said that Pagans were delusional. It started to become a source of negativity for me, because of my family, so I stopped practicing a year or so later when I was 13.

Then, when I was 19, I discovered it again. I stepped into a metaphysical store, and it felt happy and I felt at home. Paganism hadn’t been something that I thought about in a while, except for when my mom occasionally would bring it up in front of my new friends and say something like “Remember when you wanted to be Wiccan and thought you were a witch?” in an attempt to embarrass me.

All the sudden, I found myself needing to be back on this path. I remembered why I had loved it when I was younger. However, I wasn’t upset that I hadn’t been practicing all those years. I know myself better now that I am older, and I know this path is the correct one that fits with me.

It’s positive, it’s nature-based, it allows me to express myself and my spirituality in healthy and creative ways, and it keeps me learning.

So, I decided I wanted to get serious about my spirituality, so I found a Unitarian Universalist church (which also lines up with my own personal values and beliefs) close to where I live and I met the large Pagan community that attends there, and I’ve been taking classes and meeting people, especially other Pagans my age to study, learn and practice with. And I’ve been going to large group sabbat rituals, which have been amazing, and it’s once again a very positive influence in my life and I am happier person when I am practicing and learning and actively being spiritual.

I hope that answers your question. Thanks for asking, that was a really good question. I’m sorry the story wasn’t terribly interesting. Haha.

Blessed be.

Me and two of my other Pagan friends got together and did had a ritual this evening. The energy was amazing, I am so happy I’ve met so many amazing Pagans my age, and that I can do this sort of thing with them, and talk with them about multiple subjects for hours. It’s a wonderful experience.

Yesterday, I took a Sabian Symbol class from a nice older Pagan couple, and they gave me sabian oracle cards. It was a pretty interesting class. Then tomorrow, with my Monday Wicca 101 class, we are have our first class ritual. So I am pretty excited. She also offered us to be part of her year and a day class, which I am planning on doing, which will be awesome I’m sure.

ANDDDDD… I am calling air for the Ostara ritual with the church. Woo! I love having a lot going on. Although, it’s kept me away from updating my Tumblr as often as I was. I’m still around though. I am so happy I’ve found this Pagan community. I loved learning from books, but learning from people is just entirely different, and it’s a really cool experience. Having other people to connect with spiritually is just.. really amazing.

Also, today I am officially becoming a Unitarian Universalist (an offical UU Pagan), I’m signing the book today at church, and then in 30 days (the minimum amount of time you need to be a member to chair a group) I will be taking over the LGBTQ group.

Anyway, speaking of church. I better start getting ready. This time change is going to kill me.

Blessed be. <3

Hi, you can call me Olive. I like to go on adventures and experience new things. I then like to learn from these experiences, and apply what I've learned to my life. I like Tumblr, because it's a place where I can essentially record the process and progress, and it's a good place for self-reflection. It's really motivating to me, to be able to visually see myself becoming a happier, healthier, wiser, and more stable person in my spirituality and in my life in general. Not to mention the Pagan community here is pretty inspiring. If you follow me you can expect to see things related to: Paganism, witchcraft, love, art, snakes, flowers, stones, owls, Athena, reflection of recent events in my life, Unitarian Universalism, things from other religions and cultures I find interesting, stories, and other things I feel somehow relate to my spirituality. I am not sure what brought you here to my page, or why you are reading this, but I hope you find what you are looking for. Feel free to ask me any questions, and I'll answer them as best I can, or perhaps point you in the direction of someone who can help you.

Blessed be.
